GPA assists CRR flood victims

The Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) recently handed over a cheque for twenty five thousand dalasis (D25,000.00) as relief assistance to flood victims in Central River Region.

The assistance according to reports from the Office of the Governor of Central River Region came following heavy floods in various parts of the Central River Region which resulted in several destructions of properties.

The assistance is a move responding to the appeal for relief assistance by the Governor of Central River Region, Alhaji Ganyie Touray and the Regional Disaster Management Committee of Central River Region. 

According to a press release from the Office of the Governor of Central River Region, the cheque was received by Alhaji Ganyie Touray, Governor of CRR and Chairman of the Disaster Management Committee on behalf of the disaster Victims.

In receiving the cheque, Governor Touray expressed profound gratitude and appreciation of the benevolent gesture of The Gambia Ports Authority and their quick and positive response to assist the flood disaster victims in various villages and towns in Central River Region. 

He said that the flood victims are in dire need of help and the relief assistance would help alleviate some of their hardships.

The Central River Region governor then called on individuals in The Gambia and abroad, philanthropic organisations, NGOs, and parastatals among others, to assist in providing relief aid in cash or kind to the flood victims who are currently in need of food, shelter and clothing.

Governor Touray on behalf of the victims and the Regional Disaster Management Committee commended the National Disaster Committee under the Vice President’s office for coming round to obtain first hand information at the disaster sites and from the affected people.
