The Red Dolphins Life Guards Association, will soon benefit from an upcoming organisation called “Beach clean”, from which they will not only be responsible for saving lives at the beachside, but also cleaning the beaches.
Speaking to the Daily Observer, Mr Bruce Berry, a British national who also doubles as the Director of Beach Clean in The Gambia, said he has already discussed with the concerned authorities on the issue of forming the Beach Clean Organisation for the Red Dolphins Life Guard Association. He added that his intention is to support the Association to not only clean the beach and save lives, but to also serve as an employment opportunity for them, noting that they will be paid salaries.
“We made an arrangement with Mr Bruce Berry, Director of Beach Clean in The Gambia, to have training with the Royal Life Saving Society, who arrived on 17th August, 2007.
“When we went to the Airport to welcome them, we had a disappointment from Mr Cliff Nelson and his team and instead, they were welcomed by some Fire Service Officers”, he added.
“We met a Senior Fire Service Officer and he told us that the trainers are here for the Fire Service Officers” said Kebba Kujabi, Chairperson of the Red Dolphin Life Guard Association.
Dodou Bah, Vice-Chairperson of the Red Dolphin Life Guard Association, said they volunteer to take duties at Fajara Beach, Palm Beach, Palma Rima, Senegambia, Bijilo and Sanyang Beach.
He said the Association has saved over 35 lives on the beach from 2005 to date.
