Ghanaian Arrested

One Francis Awddai Antini, commonly known as Kofi, a Ghanaian national, was arrested recently by the police in connection with an allegation of fraud, The Point learnt. When contacted, the police PRO, Inspector Secka, said that Mr. Antini came to The Gambia in June 2007. In July 2007, Secka disclosed, Mr. Antini placed an advertisement in the Daily Observer newspaper of 12th July, in which he indicated that flight attendants or air hostesses were wanted, and he included his contact number and forms to be filled.

Inspector Secka also noted that, Mr. Antini has been alleged to have been fraudulent to numerous people, and the police have contacted them but only forty came to the station with their receipts to confirm, and the rest, he added, have promised to come forward.

“That’s why the case has not been taken to court, but nevertheless he is charged for two counts. On Count One, he is charged for false statement by an official of companies contrary to section 302 of the Criminal Code; and in Count Two, obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to Section 288 of criminal code, cap 10 Vol 3 Laws of The Gambia.
