The Gambian community in Libya has appealed to the Gambia government to set up a diplomatic mission in the North African country.
Speaking to this reporter at Bab Al Bahar hotel in Tripoli, many Gambians living and/or studying in Libya said that a Gambian diplomatic mission in Libya would ease a lot of the problems that they face every day. "You know there are some places and cases that ambassadors can be allowed to go, which ordinary citizens are not allowed to enter, even if it concerns citizens," says a Gambian resident in Libya.
For the time being however, Saikou Jitteh, a Gambian studying in Libya, suggested that Gambian envoys to Libya should always give them advance information about their visits to the North African country so that they could interact with them and tell them their problems. "We always feel belittled when diplomats from other African countries visit Libya and interact with their students here. This shows how much these diplomats are concerned about their students here," he said.
