Crunch time in GFA league

Thursday, June 14, 2007

The GFA First Division league season will resume today with fascinating fixtures as the race for the league title heats up.

The current leaders, Real de Banjul, will lock horns with Gambia Ports Authority, in what could be described as a top of the table clash at Independence Stadium today.
A win for either side in the second but last final weekend fixture, will further tighten the title race.

Steve Biko will also hope that their derby fixture against fellow strugglers, Africell/Sait Matty, will not prove too big an obstacle to crack. Biko will undoubtedly need a win to avoid their first-ever relegation in over a decade, while a win for Africell/Sait Matty will arguably see them avoid relegation as well.

Another newcomers, Sea View, have their fate lingering in the balance and further defeat will relocate them to the second division should Bakau United and Steve Biko prove a point.

On Thursday, Wallidan will lock horns with Hawks, who have already been ruled out of the title race. A win for the Blue Boys will see them claim the top spot should Real de Banjul and Ports Authority share points.

Bakau United will wrapp up the Week Seventeen fixture when they take on Gamtel at Banjul Mini-stadium.
