The transfer and replacement of voters cards commences today, ahead of the forthcoming Local Government elections, slated for January 24, next year.
According to reports from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), the exercise will last for one month to enable members of the electorate, who had their voters’ cards missing or have transferred to prepare for the Local Government elections.

The general public is hereby informed that the exercise to replace lost, destroyed or mutilated voters’ cards or the transfer of voting cards will commence today, Thursday 1st and end on Friday 30th November 2007. This exercise will take place in the IEC regional offices countrywide. A fee of D50.00 will be levied on any transferred or replaced card.
In accordance with Section 35 subsection 3, a registered voter whose voting card has been lost, stolen or destroyed, shall before applying for a transfer, apply for a replacement of his/his voting card.
Applicants for transfer should have already been residing in the area for a minimum period of six (6) months, or the area should be their place of birth.
The Commission will make inquiries on all applications and cards will be either replaced or transferred, if the applications are deemed to be bona fide.
