BKBK ends familiarisation tour

The Barrow Kunda Beakanyang Kafo (BKBK), a registered community-based organisation, which is involved in the promotion of education, health and agriculture, recently concluded a two-day familiarisation tour of schools  in the Upper River Region.

Addressing meetings at Jah Kunda, Sare Njia and Barrow Kunda Lower Basic School in Wuli West District, Nfamara Jawneh, Secretary- General and Orphanage Coordinator of the BKBK, reiterated his organisation’s commitment to complement government’s efforts in promoting education in the rural Gambia. “We are fully aware that the government alone cannot do it all, and therefore, complementing its efforts is indeed necessary,” he said.

He said access to education is a fundamental right of every child, and then noted that to be an orphan cannot be a hindrance to anyone. He described quality primary school education as significant, as it’s the foundation for a responsible and productive citizenship.

Mr Jawneh assigned the school authorities to identify needy orphans in their respective schools for them to be involved in a pilot project. He also appealed to individuals and organisations to help his organisation in the realisation of their objectives.

Ms Rose Bridgitt Bass, a senior teacher at Jah Kunda Lower Basic, lauded Beakanang for the initiative, saying that it will reduce the rate of illiteracy in the area.

Mr Faye Jawneh, Head Teacher of Sare Njai Lower Basic School, described the move as patriotic and then called on the people to support the initiative for its sustainability. Mr Jawneh assured Beakanyang of his school’s cooperation.

In another development, Mr Jawneh on behalf of FEGAMSO, last week donated Islamic books to Nayakoi Upper Basic and Senior Secondary Schools.

The books were received by Balla Kanuteh, Principal of the school, who assured them that the gift would be put into good use.
