2 ex-NIA officers appear in court

Demba Sowe and Baboucarr Jallow, both former officers of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), were arraigned before the Honourable High Court Master Aminata Saho Ceesay - who presided over the Bundung Magistrates Court on behalf of Acting Principal Magistrate Kumba Sillah-Camara, on Monday.

The two are charged with theft, abuse of office and conspiracy to commit a felony. They are said to have jointly conspired and stolen an amount of D1,620,000 from one Christopher Badjie while investigating him for an alleged crime.

The crimes were also said to have been committed in Banjul, Kololi and other places in February and March of this year.The duo was granted bail in the sum of D2.5 million each with two Gambian sureties with title deeds. They have been ordered to submit their passports and report to the Bundung Police Station 3 days a week.

Their photos are also to be posted at all entry points into the country.
