The National Union of Gambia Students (NUGS), the body responsible for the welfare of students at tertiary institutions in The Gambia, on Friday, held a one-day training on leadership, at the GTTI hall, old Jeshwang.

NUGS was incepted in 2005, with the sole aim of uniting Gambian students under one umbralla and participate actively in national development. Delivering his welcom remarks, Kakai Sanneh, registrar at GTTI, gave assurance of his institution’s support. He made it clear that GTTI will always be ready to give support to such a bold initiative. Ansumana Darboe of UTG, who is also the current president of NUGS, described the training as a milestone between NUGS and Youths for Crist (YFC) in The Gambia. Darboe then admitted that such leadership trainings are relevant.

Highlighting on the concept of leadership, Darboe said “as a leader, your mission should be known to your followers or your subjects”. He recalled the achievements made by NUGS and pledged that under his leadership, NUGS will maintain the already built foundation by the former executive. He implored on participants to take advantage of the training and thanked YFC for the initiative.

The representative of the registrar UTG, Samba Jallow, urged the participants to interact positively throughout the training so as to benefit a lot. He commended NUGS for the magnificent step taken towards national development. Ebrima Sanneh, ex-president of NUGS said the training is a forum that will enable participants from different institutions to obtain skills. He urged them to participate openly.

Paul Gomez of Youths for Crist in The Gambia, spoke on the significance of youth organisations in the country and described the training as educative.
