Multi-grade teaching training wraps-up in CRR

At least thirty-three participants last Saturday November 29, concluded a three-day training on multi-grade teaching in Janjanbureh, CRR.

The training which brought together classroom teachers, cluster monitors, head teachers, cluster trainers and regional education office staff, is a pilot program in region 5 and 6 and is the third of its kind for schools with low enrolment.

The program was implemented by the University of Massachusetts in collaboration with the Department of State for Basic and Secondary Education. In his remarks on behalf of the regional Director, Ebrima Janko Sanneh, the senior education officer said the last training was the introduction to the re-emergence of multi-grade teaching and guidelines for teachers and the community.  He thanked World Bank for funding the program through the National Council for Negro Women based in Senegal.

Emilly Sarr, the coordinator of the program, said that the training has teaching strategies and classroom management. She noted that multi-grade teaching is not easy. She further explained that those teachers are being under utilized and multi grade teaching is advocate for them.

She pointed out that teachers teaching in such schools need skills and the knowledge to perform well.
