‘Homosexual’ arrested

Peter Paul Hornberger, a German, has been arrested by the police for commiting an ‘unnatural offence’. He was on Tuesday paraded before a group of reporters at the Gambia Police Headquarters in Banjul.

He is alledged to have had carnal knowledge of an underaged boy (name withheld).  The suspect is a resident of Senegambia in the Kololi area. Chief Inspector Yamundaw Jagne-Joof, the Gambia Police Child Welfare Unit officer, said on Wednesday, 19 November, she received a call and was reliably informed that a sexual abuse against a male child had been committed within the Tourism Development Area. She added that on the following day, she alerted the Major Crime Unit who investigated the matter and arrested the suspect.

 Superintendent Malamin Ceesay, the officer commanding the Major Crime Unit said the victim is an 11-year old boy who resides in the Greater Banjul Area.  He added that the boy had been taken to the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital for a medical test but the medical report could not be disclosed.
He further stated that the parents of the young boy, who were contacted and invited to make statements at the police station, said they noticed that something was wrong with their son.

They also stated that their son had been going out in the morning and not returning until late in the evening. The commanding officer said Peter Paul Hornberger will be charged for unnatural offences contrary to Section 144 (A) of the Criminal Code and indecent assault of a boy under the age of 18 years. Yankuba Sonko, the crime management coordinator, advised the general public especially parents to take great care of their children.
