Governor Ganyie Touray commends CDDP

The governor of the Central River Region, Alhaji Ganyie Touray, has extended words of commendation to the Community Driven Development Project (CDDP), following the disbursement of over D1.5 million by the body to twenty-four villages in CRR South.

He described the project as one with a difference. The CDDP is a five year World Bank-sponsored project.  Governor Gaye was speaking in an interview with this reporter, Wednesday, December 31, in his office in Janjangbureh. The governor pointed out that the project has not only empowered the communities, but that it is poised to enhance their livelihood for a long period of time.

He attributed it to the efforts of the Gambian leader, Professor Yahya Jammeh, in nation building. The chief executive officer of the Janjangbureh Area Council, Yusupha Manneh, observed that the work of CDDP serves as a complement to the council’s efforts as they are providing services in the priority areas of the council. He stressed the need for the community to put in place strong mechanisms for maintenance and sustainability of the benefits they derive from the project.

The community development officer of CRR South, Lamin Badjie, called for the full participation and commitment of the community in the course of the project’s implementation. He finally urged them to be transparent and accountable.
