The president of the Republic, Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, has received a letter of gratitude and humility from Lamin (Sibi) Sanyang, an ex-Gambian diplomat, for the full pardon and discontinuance of the charges that were preferred against him.
Below we reproduce the full text of the message addressed to President Jammeh. May it please you, Sir, to accept from me and my family this humble expression of profound gratitude and hearty sense of joy, having received your full pardon and news of Your Excellency’s directive for the discontinuance of the charges that were preferred against my humble self.
Most sincerely, I wish to inform you, Sir, that this noble gesture is yet another manifestation of your grace and kindness that I have always been privileged and lucky to be a beneficiary of. My entire family, parents, and friends have all expressed limitless praises and gratitude to you, for this act of charity, a virtue that is characteristic of humanity and love for all Gambians.
It is my solemn wish and prayer that Your Excellency will accept my unalloyed pledge of everlasting loyalty, goodwill, and servitude, as you continue to lead and guide us to greater prosperity, bridled by a new sense of patriotism, selflessness, and hard work, in an endeavor to transform Gambia and make her people a proud lot to be emulated.
In this respect, Sir, I do hereby reiterate my pledge to be always available to serve, with humility and dedication, even though my services with government have been terminated. It is my strong conviction that should the privilege arise, I can make myself useful in any endeavor or undertaking that Your Excellency may instruct.
It is thus with keen expectation that I beg to end this thank-you-letter, with best wishes and prayers for Your Excellency’s good health, long life and, continued and unchallenged tenure in office, ad infinitum.
