Functions of Tourism -for All – The Gambia Charter - TAG
The functions of Tourism-for-All - TAG in furtherance of the forgoing aims and objectives shall be:
1. To conduct service provider education, awareness raising and advocacy programs and projects;
2. To undertake research, collate and analyze information on Tourism-for-All;
3. To influence the legislature, central and local authorities to improve special needs/disabilities laws/regulations and strengthen enforcement of such laws;
4. To provide advisory services to tourists with special needs/disabilities whose rights have been infringed;
5. To act as a channel for consultation, communication and promoting understanding and co-operation between tourists with special needs/disabilities and service providers;
6. To assist the government and the private sector in making the tourist industry persons with special needs/disabilities friendly;
7. To collaborate with local, national, international organizations, and individuals in the furtherance of the above named functions;
8. To co-operate with government agencies, development partners and other stakeholders to raise public awareness of the rights and responsibilities of tourists particularly, those with special needs/disabilities;
9. To work with the government and private sector to explore the possibilities of attracting senior citizens and tourists with special needs/disabilities;
10. To establish a complaint procedures to record and address senior citizens and tourists with special needs/disabilities complaints and grievances;
11. To collaborate with government agencies, development partners and organizations of persons with disabilities to make The Gambia – “A Gambia Fit for Persons with Special Needs/disabilities.”
12. To undertake activities gear towards removing barriers that hinder the attainment of equal rights and equal opportunities for persons with special needs/disabilities;
13. To do such other things as may be conducive to the attainment of the aims and objectives of Tourism-for-All -(TAG).
Membership
The categories of membership of Tourism-for-All - TAG are as follows:
1. Charter members
2. Ordinary members
3. Honorary members
Both Charter and Ordinary members are full members of TAG who shall enjoy full rights as accorded by the constitution and Rules and Regulations of TAG.
Eligibility and Rights
Only individual persons are eligible for TAG membership. No institutional memberships are accepted.
Charter members – are all founding members of TAG whose names are as set out in the schedule attached to the constitution at the time of its registration with the Department of State for Justice. All charter members who are up-to-date with their financial obligations are eligible to one vote at the Annual General Meeting. All charter members are automatically life-members of the Executive council and shall qualify to occupy any position in TAG.
Ordinary member – open to any persons with special needs/disabilities or interested in the welfare of persons with special needs/disabilities irrespective of ethnic group, religious belief, political affiliation, nationality provided that the person is of good character. All ordinary members who are up-to-date with their financial obligations shall be legible to one vote at the Annual General Meetings and shall be entitle to hold any office in TAG.
Honorary member – shall be individuals whose contributions are specially recognized by members of TAG and accepted as such upon the decision of the Executive Council. Honorary members are nominated by the Executive Council and shall have no voting rights but may be appointed by the Executive Council in any appropriate committee or working group.
