Dawda Manneh, ex-National Assembly member for Nianija constituency in the Central River Region (CRR) and his co-accused, Demba Baldeh, an ex-soldier last Thursday reappeared at the Banjul Magistrates Court as the drug peddling case filed against them by the state continues.
Last Thursday’s sitting was characterised by evidence from the 3rd prosecution witness, Pa Modou Jarra, an officer of the NDEA. The office acknowledged that he obtained cautionary and voluntary statements from the two accused persons on the 15th of September and 9th of October 2008.
He identified the said statements together with a certificate issued by the Weight and Measure Unit in Banjul. They were tendered and marked as exhibits.
Responding to the cross examination from the defense counsel, Amie Joof-Conteh, the NDEA officer maintained that he indeed obtained statements from the accused persons on the said dates.
He denied the suggestion that the NDEA attempted to induce the second accused, Demba Baldeh, to implicate the 1st accused, Dawda Manneh.
The case was adjourned to Thursday, 27th Nonember 2008.
