CRR communities sensitised on anti-littering regulations

The National Envrionment Agency (NEA) last Tuesday held a day community sensitisation in Janjanbureh, Central River Region on the anti- littering regulations,  its offences and the penalties awaiting victims such as fines (between one thousand to five thousand dalasis) or imprisonment.

In his remarks at the ceremony, the senior programme officer of Envrionmental Quality, Mustapha Jallow said the purpose of the meeting was to senstise the people of CRR on the anti- littering regulation laws which was signed by President Yahya Jammeh since 2007. He spoke at length on the importance of the sensitisation, noting that it will increase community awareness.

For his part, Shiekh Alkinky Sanyang, the NEA  public relations officer called for attitudinal change towards waste management, noting that, waste management is a problem in the country. He urged the participants to disseminate what they assimilated during the sensitization.

Bakary Jam Jawo, the chief of Janjanbureh  commended the NEA for the awareness creation. According to him, this will go a long way in spraying the gospel at the grassroots level. He assured them that as district authorities, they will intensify the awareness creation.

The  regional NEA inspector, Lamin Samateh, urged people to note that in order to avoid fines, all proprietors of private residential properties and shops should clean their entire residences up to the edge of the public road.

Alhagie Kekuta Ceesay, the vice chairman of the Janjanbureh Area Council chaired the ceremony.
