Joseph Sampson and Baboucarr Njie, all employees of Castle Petrol Company Gambia Ltd, were on Saturday, December 13, arrested and detained at the Yundum Police Station, Kombo North, Western Region, Daily Observer can reveal.
According to Superintendent Ma Lamin Ceesay, Officer Commanding Major Crime Unit of The Gambia Police Force, the two accused (Joseph Sampson and Baboucarr Njie), on Saturday December 13, jointly stole D47,756.49 at the Castle Petrol Station located between Sukuta and the Brusubi Junction and kept the money behind the petrol station.
The Major Crime boss explained that the two accused persons after stealing the money, alerted the police that unknown individuals robbed them of the sum in question that same night. He then said the police investigated the matter and later found out that the two accused persons lied to them, instead they stole the said amount of money and kept it.
Supt Ceesay further hinted the Daily Observer that about D31,357 was recovered by the police during the course of their investigations and that the remaining balance is D14,679.49. He added that the accused persons will be charged for giving false information to the police and stealing, contrary to the Laws of The Gambia.
Meanwhile, the two accused are still under detention at the Yundum Police Station while the police investigation continues.
