As part of its continued support to the country’s health sector, the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) recently donated US$300,000 to the Department of State for Health and Social welfare.

The money is the second payment of Taiwan’s annual grant of US$600,000 to the health sector.

Richard Shih, the Taiwanese plenipotentiary to The Gambia, presented the cheque to Dr Malick Njie, the secretary of state for Health and Social Welfare, at a ceremony held at the Department of State for Health and Social Welfare, Banjul.

Presenting the cheque, Ambassador Shih elaborated on the importance of health in the socio-economic development of a country and expressed delight in presenting the cheque. He assured his government’s commitment to the development of the health sector in the country.

At the ceremony, Secretary of State Njie thanked the Taiwanese government for its continued support to the state department, as the grant helps in providing doctors and medical technicians for the public health facilities.

“It has always been a pleasure working with the Republic of China on (Taiwan),” said Dr Njie.
