Former NIA Director of Finance Seeks Bail Conditions Review

Former NIA Director of Finance, Bakary Gassama, is seeking a review of his bail conditions granted to him by the Banjul Magistrates’ Court at the High Court.

The bail review application was filed on behalf of the applicant by his defence counsels Sherriff Tambedou and Kebba Sanyang and is expected to be heard today at Criminal Division of the Banjul High Court.

The defence is seeking a review of the bail conditions granted to their client by the Banjul Magistrates’ Court as he was unable to fulfil the conditions of the bail bond and as a result he is still been remanded at the Mile 2 State Central prison.

The accused Bakary Gassama who is standing trial at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court for alleged abuse of office was granted court bail in the sum of D100, 000 with Gambian surety who must be in the rank of a Police Commissioner.

According to the alleged offence, the accused Bakary Gassama on or about the month of May 2008, at the NIA office in the city of Banjul abused his office by receiving the sum of D51, 000 from one Abubacarr Jallow for safe keeping knowingly that the said amount was stolen. He denied the charge.
