D183,000 fake notes’ case in court

Charles Lawson, a Nigerian national, was on Monday, arraigned before Magistrate Buba Jawo of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court, for being in possession of D183,000 of fake notes, contrary to Section 334 of the Criminal Code, Laws of The Gambia 1990.

According to the prosecution, on or about the 5 of June, 2007, at Bundung in the Kanifing Municipality, Charles Lawson was found in possession with D183, 000.00 and CFA1,520,000 of  fake notes, without lawful authority.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against him.

He was then granted bail to the sum of D150,000 with two Gambian sureties. However, Charles could not meet the bail condition and was subsequently remanded at the State Central Prisons at Mile 2. The case was then adjourned to 24 September, 2007.
